Our 5 Commitments to Operational Safety

Our “5 Commitments” are a fundamental cornerstone in keeping our people and those we engage with safe from harm. They focus on critical areas of operational activity where safe behaviours are non-negotiable to prevent the most serious injuries from occurring. We must understand them and act upon them as every one of us has an individual and collective responsibility to uphold these Commitments. We see the individual and invest in quality people from all backgrounds.

Our 5 commitments to operational safety are:

Ground Disturbance

  • We ALWAYS identify, trace and mark on site buried plant and equipment before breaking ground and ensure these markings remain visible at all times for the duration of the work.

Personal Protective Equipment

  • We ALWAYS use the Personal Protective Clothing and Equipment provided by KLT.

Plant and Vehicle Movement

  • We ALWAYS operate plant or vehicles with a trained and competent operative and ALWAYS ensure that plant and vehicle movements are controlled via the use of a vehicle marshal or banksman.

Permits and Authorisations

  • We ALWAYS have the required quality assured documentation, authorisations, permits and licences covering the scope of the work to be carried out before starting the work.

Safety Systems & Environmental Protection

  • We ALWAYS ensure the appropriate safety systems and environmental
protection is in place and would never deliberately disarm, immobilise, harm or intentionally remove any such protection or systems.

Health and safety is a non-negotiable commitment, shared by everyone at KLT.  Every action has safety built in – first time, every time. We have a no-compromise, zero-tolerance approach to unsafe acts or behaviours. There is nothing so urgent that we should ever have to compromise this statement.

For us, health and safety is a moral imperative. We review, stress-test and update our health and safety policies regularly to make sure that they are robust, compliant and optimised for our people and communities. Accountable leadership is critical, since a true safety culture starts at the top down. That’s why it’s captured in our codes and company values, quietly enriching everyday life in the background.

Health and safety is a business imperative too, since our future depends on the trust people place in us. As our health and safety commitment makes clear, our obligations do not stop with our employees. We’re committed to improving the safety of contractors, visitors and assets, right across our valued supply chain.
